Response problems when setting a specific width

In order to have a smaller width in the text space of the publication (the customer likes it) I configured from the theme options -> Design -> General, the “Apply width?” to “yes” and increased the width of the sidebar to get the smallest width of text.

The problem is that if I activate this, it loses the responsive effect on mobiles. Is one thing not compatible with the other?
