Installing Humanity NGO

    Hi,

I have just purchased this theme for an NGO that I work for. I want to set it up on a private machine (not accessible from the internet) and get the settings right before installing the theme on our live site. I am currently unable to install and test it, using the instructions that are in the documentation.

There are two boxes involved here:

Linux box – command line access, hosts the existing WordPress site running WordPress 4.9.4, where I want the theme to be installed

Windows box – on the same local area network, where I do my actual work, ftp-ing to the linux box as necessary.

    Results of installation method 1:

Got as far as Upload Themes/select humanity.zip. I note that this selects files from my windows box, ie start ftp from the linux box, try to find an FTP server on the Windows box, get the file that way. This is not something I’ve ever had to do before – I have done my best to set up the Windows box as a local FTP server but it’s just not doing anything and I feel this is unnecessarily complicated, given that I can put the required files RIGHT THERE on the linux box any time I like, leading to …

    Installation method 2:

    1. Log into your Hosting server space using any FTP software (applications like FileZilla) at first.
    2. Extract the “humanity.zip” (inside “humanity-1.0.zip”) file as you’ve downloaded.
    3. Upload that extracted folder into your “wp-content / themes” directory.
    4. Once if the theme is uploaded and installed, you need to activate it from Appearance > Themes then.

I have done up to step 3, but I see no path from there to being able to activate it. It certainly doesn’t come up in my list of installed themes as being activatable while it’s sitting there as a .zip file.

I did try simply extracting the zipfile on the linux box, at which point Humanity appears in the themes as being able to be activated, but Live Preview shows a completely blank screen, and if I try to activate it, the entire WordPress installation falls over until I delete the humanity directory and force it back to default theme.

    What’s my next move?

    thanks

    Hi EmmaBlueprint.,

If possible just try to upload your site online so that we can check and fix the issue for you. Else try to take a clear video of your installation process and send us so that we can check and let you know.

If your site is blank, just enable the debug mode in wp-config.php and check what is the error.

    Hi,

When I enable wp_debug, this is the error I get when trying out live preview:

Warning: require_once(/home/emma/public_html/blueprint_2017/wp-content/plugins/designthemes-core-features/apis/mailchimp/mailchimp.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/emma/public_html/blueprint_2017/wp-content/themes/humanity/framework/register_widgets.php on line 3

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/home/emma/public_html/blueprint_2017/wp-content/plugins/designthemes-core-features/apis/mailchimp/mailchimp.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php’) in /home/emma/public_html/blueprint_2017/wp-content/themes/humanity/framework/register_widgets.php on line 3

And, indeed, there is no designthemes-core-features directory in the plugins, probably because I just unzipped humanity.zip manually when I couldn’t get the install process to work.

So – can we go back to method 2?

Lets assume I’m trying method 2, and I have got up to putting the humanity.zip file in my themes directory so that it looks like this:

    [emma@kudzu themes]$ pwd

    /home/emma/public_html/blueprint_2017/wp-content/themes

    [emma@kudzu themes]$ ls

    awada                          gridalicious  kurama          stained-glass    twentysixteen

    blueprint-stained-glass-child  humanity.zip  layout-builder  twentyfifteen    zoom-lite

    clean-journal                  index.php     raindrops       twentyseventeen

“Humanity” is not listed among my installed themes, because it’s still zipped.

“Add new Theme” just takes me back to the screen where it’s going to ask me to ftp the zipfile from my Windows box.

What do I do at this point?

    Hi.,

Sorry for the inconvenience , no need to install the theme again. Kindly install our designthemes-core-features plugin manually via FTP.

Get into the file path wp-content/themes/humanity/framework.plugins there you can find our plugin zip file unzip the folder there you can find the designthemes-core-features folder then copy the folder ( wp-content/themes/humanity/framework.plugins/designthemes-core-features/designthemes-core-features ) and paste under the plugins folder and check out the issue.

Thankyou, that seems to have worked very well

(actually, I didn’t end up downloading the designthemes-core-features from your link, because the zipfile was there in the theme folder under framework/plugins. So I just used that.)

I presume that the content of dummy-layer-slider also goes in plugins, and humanity-child in themes, for customisation?

    thanks

    Hi.,

    OK , Thank You.

    • Dummy-layer-slider Folder – You can unzip this folder and import the slider under the layer slider option and use it in your pages.
    • humanity-child Folder – Yes, you can use this theme for customization when you have used child theme when you have update the parent theme it will not affect your child theme customization.
